Skills Every Website Owner Should Learn

Experts can be expensive and there’s nothing wrong with that – provide an excellent service and you deserve good pay.

The trouble is many of us don’t have the money to pay for expert services. This is why I do much of the basic level skills myself. If I need to hire someone who charges by the hour, I want them spending those hours doing things I don’t know how (or want) to do myself.

I can take care of the simple things myself.  This is what I’m doing with my office renovation. I can build the desk but someone else can work with electricity.

What Is An SOP And Why Do You Need One?

I first needed to create an SOP for a very large vehicle and trailer dealership back in the 90’s. At the time, we had over 500 employees. The task at hand seemed over whelming.

The SOP, also known as Standard Operating Procedures, is something every business needs. It does not matter whether you are a Fortune 500 company or a one-person, home-based business – You need an SOP.

It is optimal if the SOP is started at the beginning of your business and not after you already have 500 employees on staff. Although, with first-hand experience I know this can also be done.

Inside The Insider – Episode 16

What’s been happening this week inside WishList Insider?

The atmosphere of competition is in the air this week within the WLM offices.  With so much scheduled to happen in Las Vegas at WLM LIVE this year, the talk of the Last Vegas marathon has inspired Wray to get into shape.

Can Faye harness the energy long enough to present the news?

Speaking of “in the air”, please forgive us for the slighly poor sound quality as we were “on location” and it was a bit windy 🙂

With that said, let’s get the show off and running to a good start!

Translation: Faye and Wray are both back again in fine form with highlights from the past week.

They discuss…

  • A new WLM Team member and the re-introduction of a Development Team member
  • The NEW Bonus PlugIn is now available – get it fast!
  • A Certification Interview from a highly prolific WLI Member
  • Some Hot Topics in Posts throughout WLI

Ad-Blocking and Your WishList Member Site

With increasing numbers of web users becoming more internet savvy, you need to find a way to make sure your advertisements appear and are noticed.

One of the most popular extensions for Firefox is Ad-block. Like the name suggests, it blocks ads from appearing while you surf the internet. Banner ads, pop-up ads, walk on video, and the rest are all blocked if desired. Other browsers and operating systems have similar programs.

Both sides of the ad-blocking argument have valid points. Sites depend on revenue from ads. Block them, and the site cannot afford to function. “We have the right to make money. Taking content without viewing ads is stealing!”

Blockers claim they wouldn’t block ads if they weren’t so annoying or potentially harmful. “Tone down your site and remove the pop-up auto playing video and I’ll stop blocking ads.” Then there are concerns for privacy, connections to debatable sites, and malicious code.

Rather than get into the right or wrong of ad (and script) blocking, we need to be aware that it’s here and its use is growing. Here are some things to keep in mind with ad-blockers and your site:

How Much Should You Charge For Access to Your WishList Member Site?

One of the hardest things for newcomers to self-employment is figuring out how much they should charge for a service or a product.

Charge too much, and you’ll get little to no customers.

Charge too little, and you can become a wage slave to less than minimum wage.

How do you find the happy medium that’s fair to both owner and customer?

Unfortunately, there’s no official formula that will help everyone determine how much they should charge. However there are some questions that should help everyone find that perfect price for both site owner and user.
